The symposium will centre around the latest developments in research, technology trials, and pilot projects within the steam and thermal solutions industry. Our focus will be on the crucial topic of decarbonisation of steam production, along with energy-saving innovations.

During this event, we will dive deep into the challenges and opportunities that come with implementing sustainable practices in the steam and thermal solutions industry. Our expert speakers will share their experiences, insights, and practical solutions that are being developed and tested in the field.

We invite attendees to engage in informative discussions on various topics, including renewable energy sources, energy-efficient technologies, and sustainable steam production methods. Our goal is to provide a platform for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing to help drive the industry towards a more sustainable future.

Join us for an exciting symposium that will inspire new ideas, foster partnerships, and promote best practices for sustainable steam and thermal solutions.

Symposium Chairman

Julien Porre is an accomplished physicist with a PhD in Physical Acoustics from University Paris VII. He received his MSc in Applied Physics prior to pursuing his doctoral studies. During his PhD research, he developed model-based algorithms for image reconstruction of ultrasonic phased array inspections at CEA (French Atomic Agency) Saclay. After working in the industry for a few years as an embedded software developer, he turned his attention to flowmetering and applied his expertise in ultrasonic instrumentation to this field.

At Ultraflux (France), Julien led the Research team and was instrumental in developing a brand new flow lab and innovation strategy. He also supervised PhD students who developed a GPU-accelerated code to compute the complex problem of ultrasonic propagation through solid parts and fluids in motion.

In 2014, Julien relocated to the UK to join OGM Ltd (Cambridgeshire) and developed an innovative 32-beam ultrasonic flowmetering technology.

He successfully formed and led a multi-discipline team to support product adoption and validation campaigns in flow laboratories around the world, resulting in multiple international conference presentations.

Since 2020, Julien has been responsible for Global Research & Technology at Spirax Sarco, where he leads a team of engineers and doctors in exploring emerging technologies that align with the decarbonisation and digitalisation of Steam and Thermal Energy Systems.

In this role, Julien has established partnerships across academia and industry to identify and develop technologies that will have a positive impact on the environment and society.
