The History of the SEEP Conference Series

The Sustainable Energy and Environmental Protection (SEEP) conference series was established by Professor Abdul Ghani Olabi in 2004 with the vision of creating a platform for researchers, industry experts, and policymakers to exchange ideas and advance innovations in sustainable energy and environmental technologies.

The first SEEP conference was held in July 2004 in Dublin, Ireland, marking the beginning of what would become a globally recognized annual event. Following its success, subsequent conferences took place in 2006 and 2009, also in Dublin. In 2010, SEEP expanded internationally with a conference in Bari, Italy, before returning to Dublin in 2012.

The series continued its international reach with events in Maribor, Slovenia (2013); Dubai, UAE (2014); Glasgow, UK (2015); Turkey (2016); Bled, Slovenia (2017); Glasgow again in 2018; and Sharjah, UAE (2019).

After a brief interruption due to the pandemic, SEEP resumed with Vienna, Austria (2021), followed by London, UK (2022 and 2023), and Vienna again in 2024. The upcoming SEEP 2025 will be hosted in London, while SEEP 2026 is planned to take place in Rome, Italy, continuing the tradition of fostering global collaboration in the field of sustainable energy and environmental protection.
